SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) does not run natively on macOS. To install it, the user runs a Windows VM under Parallels and joins it to the domain.

Steps to install SSMS on macOS:

  1. Download the Parallels Windows VM and get the Windows license assigned.
  2. Connect to a VPN on the Mac (see GlobalProtect or OpenVPN installation articles).
  3. Create a regular user account in the Parallels Windows VM and sign in.
  4. Go to Settings > System > About.
  5. Click "Domain or workgroup" to change the domain.
  6. In System Properties, click "Change the domain or workgroup" and add the Windows VM to the mccorp.com domain.
  7. Have an admin enter the username and password to join the Windows VM to the domain.
  8. Restart the VM and sign in as another user with the user@mccorp.com account and regular password.
  9. Install SSMS. If required, install Crystal Reports as well.
