What is a VPN and why do we need it?

A virtual private network (VPN) is an Internet security service that creates an encrypted connection between user devices and one or more servers. VPNs securely connect a user to the company's internal network. You need the VPN to connect to the office server while working from home.

Note: The GlobalProtect VPN will not work during a power outage in the office. You cannot install GlobalProtect while connected to the office Wi-Fi or working from the office.

How to install, run, connect, and disconnect GlobalProtect VPN

  1. Go to MCi's VPN website: https://vpn.mccorp.com/. Log in with your username (first initial + last name, e.g. John Doe → jdoe) and your regular system password.
  2. After clicking "LOG IN," click "Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent" (unless using another OS) to download the installer.
  3. Open the downloaded file and click "Next" through the install prompts. Click "Yes" when prompted to allow changes to your PC.
  4. Once installed, search for "GlobalProtect" in the Windows search bar and click "Get Started."
  5. Enter the VPN address vpn.mccorp.com and click "Connect."
  6. Enter your username (first initial + last name) and your regular system password, then click "Connect."
  7. You're now connected to GlobalProtect VPN. Click "Disconnect" to end the session.
  8. To reopen or manage the VPN later, click the GlobalProtect icon in the Windows taskbar.
